A Return To Faith Practice & Finger-Crossing

ON July 1, with a long half-season ahead of us, there’s time to step up the Pray4Mets game.

In most classic stories, there’s a character that goes through a fallen stage. It’s not Matt Harvey. It’s not Lenny Dykstra. It’s me. I haven’t been praying, and more importantly, I haven’t been leading others in prayer, faith practice and finger-crossing for the benefit of the Mets. Look where that’s gotten us in 2019.

Classic spiritual stories tell us there is always redemption, a way out of the desert. And, it’s never easy.

In 2015, our Pray4Mets team of about 25 folks, in a Los Angeles-to-London arc, covered the Mets with blessings or what-have-you. From the bottom of the MLB barrel, the Mets made it to the World Series on our wings and our prayers. It took two and a half months until sports writers stopped their trash talk, sat up straight and took notice of what the Mets were doing. Priests and rabbis came around soon after. Our team was in the know, all along.

Who wants to give a more active Pray4Mets life a try again, in this very special season? Is it worth the effort to you? How much do you want it? Come, sign on.

Here’s the Pray4Mets July – November schedule:

  • Morning prayer:  Week’s (M-F) syllabus delivered on Monday mornings. Email me at Pray4Mets@gmail.com to sign up with ‘Morning Pray4Mets’ in the subject line.
  • Sabbath meeting: Wednesdays, when there’s an evening game, at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair.
  • Sermon: weekly blog posts on Wednesdays. This week’s theme: Mets Karma Review.
  • Pilgrimages, prayer beads, yarmulkes and holy books: TBD.

P4M YOGIAs my Montclair neighbor & Mets manager, Yogi Berra, used to say, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. Let’s Go Mets!
