Curtis Granderson’s May 19 performance against the Mets for the last-place Marlins hurt, and hurt badly. Rumors flew that manager Mickey Callaway would be shown the door.
It was the same Curtis Granderson, whose performances in 2014 and 2015 as a Met started the Pray4Mets movement. His maturity, easy style and success as he sailed over the East River from the Bronx to Queens buoyed the Mets’ clubhouse and the 2015 season. And, whaddya know, in those bumpy few years for the Mets, Granderson was traded away in 2017 in a style similar to Daniel Murphy’s separation from the team.
The one thing I regret … was not signing Daniel Murphy – Mets GM (2010-2018) Sandy Alderson
So, from a karma perspective, May’s in-your-face comeuppance with Miami tells us the Mets are still paying for past sins…no need to fire Callaway…it’s just karma coming around again, paying dues, or doing penance. When will the clouds lift? Let’s hope new General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen learns from history, especially as the trading deadline approaches, and is inspired to find a magic touch that pleases the baseball gods.
Bless Brodie with the spirit of Theo Epstein, quickly, please, as we again meet the Marlins, and not our makers, this weekend.
Yes, say it with me.
