Mets & Melded Metaphors

Weren’t we all on a roll during the early August three-game series with the Washington Nationals, with high expectations for a sweep? After all, when the Mets’ winning streaks go into the teens, it’s so easy to get carried away.

Not so fast.

Thank goodness that in a recent post, Of Mets & Meatloaf, we learned to rely on ancient rock ‘n’ roll wisdom: ‘two out of three ain’t bad.’ The Mets took two of the three games in the series with the Gnats. We were kept humble, and also had the tools to stay steady and positive.

Two out of three aren’t bad. Humility is one of the seven virtues thinkers & theologians advise for men and women to have healthy lives. One part humility to two parts lust, greed, pride & gluttony seems, this season, to check our fist-in-the-filbert-jar impulses just right.

Golden Rectangle‘Two out of three ain’t bad’ helps us balance our very human, timeless conflicts of values and vices…call it ourGolden Ratio.’ In round numbers, and if other teams’ ratios, by chance, are not quite as lustrous, it can get the Mets to the post-season.

Recently, I’ve been talking with Mets fans who were throwing in the towel yet again for 2019. Mature men, men with children, men with power…giving up on their team. SMH.

Stay humble, stay hungry and Pray4Mets. You can do it.
