If you’re reading this, and your July 4 celebrations include thoughts of
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
or
endowed by their Creator
thoughts of baseball are not far behind.
As a uniquely American sport for many years, baseball moved the liberty ball and the American way forward by opening up the landscape of opportunity for those who developed their awesome potential through connection with the sport.
Baseball led the way in breaking the nation’s color barrier and limits in 1947. With the flashy arrival of Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes in the nation’s media capital in 2015, and the economic engine of the World Baseball Classic, can American baseball also move other nations toward greater Liberty for their people and their economies? If the sport, its teams and its people are dynamos for liberty, are they blessed?
James 1:25:
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Keeping Yoenis, his leadership, his team – our team – and our nation in our thoughts during this holiday week. Success, please, for our stars and stripes.
