Folks of baseball faith can see straight through the disappointment of the Mets not making it to the post season this year. They can see the awesomeness of Pete Alonso, Jacob deGrom, a dynamic new team spirit and management’s broadening consciousness. They can even see how our “prayers” might have made a difference — could it really be? — once we started focusing our hands-together, fingers-crossed energies again after the All-Star break.
How far we’ve come in five years of Pray4Mets. Reverend Ousley of Manhattan’s Church of The Incarnation, while generous with his scholarly support of my and our efforts, seemed to be giving me sidelong glances for the first couple of years of this pursuit, and not just because he’s a Yankees fan.
Now, when I pass through the receiving line after services, I get a high-five from the church’s clerical team. Eyes light up. Our world is a little more heavenly than in 2014 & on opening day of the 2015 season. Even the choirs – made up of singers, or fans, or sportswriters — sound sweeter.
Onward and forward from those old days…to a sweeter New Year, 2020 season, and beyond. Email Pray4Mets@gmail.com if you’re in for attending the season home opener on March 26.
Let’s Go Mets!
